Maggie MacPherson is a photographer, videographer, and award-winning photojournalist based in the unceded, traditional territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh peoples, also known as Vancouver, Canada. As an alumna of the RTA School of Media at Ryerson University in Toronto, Maggie’s education is rooted in communicating stories and ideas through visual media.

As a photojournalist, her work has been published in news platforms including The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, The Globe and Mail, and The Tyee. She is the First Prize winner of a 2019 National Pictures of the Year (NPOY) competition in the Personality Portrait category and a Third Prize winner of a 2020 NPOY award in the Spot News category.

She currently works full-time as a news videographer for CBC Vancouver.

When Maggie isn’t pursuing news assignments, she enjoys exploring creative and collaborative photography projects.

In 2016, she teamed up with poet and creative director Kai Bishop to create “Dichotomies” which exhibited at the Beaumont Art Gallery and was subsequently turned into a self-published book and online experience. In 2018, she was commissioned by acclaimed opera singer and artistic director, Heather Pawsey, to create a printed photo series to accompany her on stage during the multimedia a capella show, “Unheard”. An online version of the series can be found here. Also in 2018, international music photographer Céline Pinget collaborated with Maggie on a series of photos to be on display during Sass the Patriarchy, a travelling event series that empowers gender diversity in the music industry. Maggie is has just released her newest project titled “Quarandreams” with 20 B.C. poets who share their experiences of 2020 & 2021 through ekphrastic interpretation of abstract symmetrical photography and video.
